Key Ingredients
There are 4 main ingredients that make the base of these taco bowls. The rest of the ingredients are toppings and add-ins that are easy to customize to your liking. I like to have a lot of veggies for toppings and add-ins. The more veggies, the better!
Ground Turkey Taco Bowls Base:
- Ground Turkey - I like using 93% lean ground turkey.
- Rice - Your choice of white or brown rice. For this recipe, I used white rice.
- Black Beans - While completely optional, I highly recommend adding black beans for extra protein and fiber to help keep you full.
- Seasonings - A mixture of pantry staples to create a homemade taco seasoning mix. You can also use a taco seasoning mix if you have it.
See the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients and measurements.
The Best Homemade Taco Seasoning
While you can certainly use a store-bought packet, I highly recommend making your own homemade taco seasoning. It's super easy to do, and perfect for this ground turkey taco bowl. You'll need:
- Chili Powder & Cumin - The foundation of that classic taco flavor.
- Garlic & Onion Powder
- Paprika - Plain or smoked.
- Dried Oregano
- Salt & Pepper
How To Make Ground Turkey Taco Bowls
Making these taco bowls is all about the assembly! Once you've cooked the rice and turkey, you simply layer in the fresh toppings and you're ready to eat! Here is how I pull it all together:

- Add the turkey to a skillet over medium heat and begin to brown, crumbling as it cooks.

- Halfway through cooking the turkey, sprinkle the seasoning over the turkey and continue cooking until done.

- Heat the beans, with a sprinkle of salt and pepper until warmed. Optional.

- Build your bowls with the rice, beans, cooked turkey and your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Topping Suggestions
- Cheese - Shredded cheese like colby jack, cheddar, or queso fresco makes a great topping.
- Salsa - One of my favorite fresh salsas to add to taco bowls is Pico de Gallo. Fresh Homestyle salsa or Jarred salsas also work great.
- Tomatoes - Diced tomatoes are always a great addition to taco bowls.
- Lettuce - Shredded lettuce adds a nice crunch to your taco bowl.
- Corn - A delicious add-in for turkey taco bowls! You could even make a black bean and corn salsa.
- Avocado - A must for any taco bowl! Sliced avocado or guacamole is perfect.
- Sour Cream - You can't go wrong with a dollop of sour cream.
- Cilantro - Fresh cilantro is another must-have for taco bowls.
- Lime - I always serve lime wedges with these turkey taco bowls for a fresh, zesty finish.
Meal Prep/Storage Tips
To meal prep these turkey tacos bowls start by adding a scoop of the cooked rice to your container. Then add in a scoop each of the cooked ground turkey and black beans. Cover with a lid and refrigerate.
In a separate container place your favorite toppings. I like to keep these in a separate container that way I can reheat the turkey bowl base. After your turkey bowl base has been reheated, combine the toppings.
These ground turkey bowls can be stored in the refrigerator up to 5 days.
This recipe makes 4 ground turkey tacos bowl servings. If serving for dinner you can easily adjust the recipe with the servings adjuster found in the recipe card below.

Whether you are meal prepping this recipe or making it for a quick lunch or dinner, I hope you enjoy it!
