There's nothing like a batch of Easy Homemade Salsa made with fresh summer tomatoes and garden peppers. It's bright, flavorful, and comes together in just minutes. Whether you're piling it onto tacos or dipping warm tortilla chips straight into the bowl, this is the kind of recipe you'll want to keep on repeat all summer long.

This is one of my favorite summer recipes to make when the garden is overflowing with ripe tomatoes and spicy peppers. We keep it stocked in the fridge for quick snacks and pairing with some of our favorite meals. It's perfect with just chips, but we also use it on everything from carnitas tacos to beef fajitas. The flavor is bold and fresh, and once you try it, you'll never want to go back to the jarred stuff.

As an expert recipe developer, I've made more salsa recipes than I can count, and this one always rises to the top. If you love a quick and easy homemade salsa that's packed with flavor, you've got to try this. And if you want another fresh option to add to your lineup, my Pico de Gallo is another summer favorite around here, especially when the tomatoes are rolling in faster than we can pick them.
No fresh tomatoes? No problem. I've used canned tomatoes many times during the winter when the garden is sleeping, and it still turns out delicious. And yes, this salsa freezes really well! Just pour off any extra liquid after it thaws and give it a quick stir. The flavor stays amazing, and it's a great treat to pull out a jar of summer in the middle of January.

If you've been looking for a go-to salsa recipe to make at home, I hope you give this one a try! It's fresh, flavorful, and so easy to make. Perfect for sharing or keeping in the fridge for a quick snack. I'd love to hear what you think if you make it!

Easy Homemade Salsa Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 pounds fresh roma tomatoes cored and quartered
- 1 cup white or yellow onion large diced
- 2 jalapeños roughly chopped
- 1 serrano roughly chopped
- 3 cloves garlic smashed
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro roughly chopped
- 2 limes juiced
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- In the bowl of a food processor, add the onion and garlic. Pulse a few times until they're finely chopped to your desired texture.
- Add in the tomatoes, peppers (start with a small amount and add more to taste), cilantro, lime juice, salt, pepper, paprika, and cumin.
- Pulse again until everything is well combined and reaches your preferred consistency, chunky or on the smoother side, it's up to you!
- Taste and adjust the seasoning or heat level, if needed. Serve right away or refrigerate for a few hours to let the flavors develop even more. Enjoy!
Notes
- Tomatoes: Fresh, roma tomatoes give this salsa the best flavor, and has less water content than larger slicing tomatoes. Large tomatoes can still be used if needed. Canned tomatoes work well when fresh ones aren't available.
- Heat Level: Always start with a small amount of peppers and add more to taste. You can use jalapeños, serranos, or whatever spicy peppers you have on hand. Don't like spicy swap for bell peppers.
- Freezing Tip: This salsa freezes beautifully. Just thaw in the refrigerator and pour off a little excess liquid before serving. The flavor holds up incredibly well.
- Consistency: Pulse the ingredients just a few times for a chunkier salsa, or blend longer for a smoother texture. You're in control!
- Best Flavor: Let the salsa chill in the fridge for a couple of hours before serving if you can, this gives the flavors time to marry.
