Creating breakfast recipes that can be prepped in advance is one of my favorite ways to have homemade breakfasts ready for my family even on the busiest mornings. These simple apple danishes are ideal for preparing ahead of time and storing in the refrigerator. They’re easy to reheat, and my children adore them!

You could probably put apple pie filling in just about anything and I think it would be a hit. The warm blend of spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg with apples is unbeatable. When combined with a flaky, buttery puff pastry and topped with a simple powdered sugar glaze, these apple danishes become irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients For Easy Apple Danishes

  • Puff Pastry – One package of thawed puff pastry is needed. Make sure it is completely thawed and kept in the refrigerator until needed.
  • Apples – Any combination of apples that are suitable for baking can be used in this recipe. I like using pink lady and honeycrisp apples when making apple fillings.
  • Sugars – Both brown sugar and powdered sugar are needed in this recipe.
  • Water
  • Butter – Plain unsalted butter is needed.
  • Spices – The apple filling is made with ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Alternatively, you can use your favorite apple pie spice blend.
  • Cornstarch – Needed to thicken the apple filling.
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Heavy Cream – Needed to make the powdered sugar glaze. Milk can be substituted if needed.
  • Egg

How To Make Apple Danishes

You are going to love how easy these Apple Danishes are to make. The premade puff pastry makes the process so easy.

STEP 1

Combine the butter, apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and 3 tablespoons of water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 4-6 minutes or until the apples are tender.

STEP 2

Mix the remaining water with cornstarch to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the saucepan, stirring until it is completely mixed in. Cook the mixture until it thickens. Then, take the saucepan off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Transfer the filling to a plate and let cool completely before proceeding.

STEP 3

Lay out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 6 equally sized rectangles. Fill each piece with approximately 2 tablespoons of the apple filling. Fold the corners into the centers. Brush with the eggwash, and bake for 16-17 minutes.

STEP 4

Whisk together the powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon to make the glaze. Drizzle over the danishes. Enjoy!

Storing/Reheating

Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. For reheating, microwave on high for 30 seconds or until heated through.
