Ingredients

This simple sheet pan dinner requires only seven ingredients and minimal prep time. To further shorten the prep time, you can do some of the prep a day or two ahead.

  • Smoked Sausage - We really like using all beef smoked sausage.
  • Potatoes - For the best roasted potatoes, I recommend using red-skinned potatoes.
  • Oil/Butter - Any neutral-tasting oil such as olive oil or avocado oil, and unsalted butter.
  • Seasonings - Just salt, pepper, and garlic powder are needed for this easy sausage and potatoes sheet pan recipe.

Pair it with Southern Style Green Beans for a delicious dinner.

How To Make Sheet Pan Sausage And Potatoes

The full recipe can be found in the recipe card below.

The crispy smashed potatoes are the highlight of this recipe for me. They're incredibly crispy on the exterior while remaining delightfully fluffy on the interior.

STEP 1

Begin by boiling the potatoes until they can be easily pierced with a fork. Then, take them out of the boiling water and place them aside until they are cool enough to handle.

STEP 2

Cut the sausage into 3-inch pieces and place in a bowl. Drizzle with a little olive oil and gently toss to coat.

STEP 3

Drizzle half of the oil and butter mixture onto the prepared sheet pan. Working with one potato at a time, place it on the sheet pan and gently flatten it with a potato masher or the bottom of a lightly oiled glass. After all the potatoes have been smashed, drizzle with the remaining oil and butter mixture, and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

STEP 4

Add the sausage to the pan and place in the oven for 35-minutes or until the potatoes are lightly browned and crispy. Enjoy!

💡Expert Tip

I love prepping any chance I get. For this recipe I like to prep the potatoes by boiling them and refrigerating them either earlier in the day or the day before.

Variations

Vegetables like peppers, onions, broccoli and zucchini are fantastic in this sheet pan dinner.

Cut the potatoes into 1-inch pieces instead of boiling and smashing them for an even faster sheet pan dinner.

Add cooked bacon pieces, sliced green onions, and shredded cheese to the finished sheet pan for a loaded sausage and potato dish.
