Key Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Cocoa Powder - To add a hint of chocolate flavor, just like what you would find in traditional red velvet cake recipes.
  • Red Food Coloring - I recommend using a gel food coloring. They are much easier to incorporate and don't add too much extra moisture to the cookie dough.
  • Buttermilk - Milk can be substituted.
  • White Chocolate Chips and Cream Cheese Baking Chips. You can replace all of the cream cheese baking chips with chocolate chips if desired. You can also use semi-sweet or dark chocolate in place of the white chocolate chips.

How To Make Red Velvet Cookies

These cookies are super easy to make and have the perfect soft and chewy texture. Be sure to chill the dough before baking, skipping this step will cause the cookies to spread too much.

1. In a medium bowl whisk together the dry ingredients.

    2. Cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in the eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring and milk.

    3. Stir the dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Then fold in the chocolate chips and baking chips. Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour.

    4. Scoop and roll in powdered sugar before baking. Bake for 12-14 minutes. Enjoy!

🍪 How To Get The Perfect Scoop

For the perfect size, use a 1-ounce portion scoop or 2 rounded tablespoons for the cookies. This size makes large cookies. For smaller cookies scoop 1 rounded tablespoon.
