Servings 2 Cups

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup onion minced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon chipotle powder or cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
I always use Kosher salt in my kitchen! If using table salt, start with half the amount and adjust to taste, as it is much "saltier" by volume.

Instructions

  • Whisk together the ketchup, water, mustard, vinegar, sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, and all of the spices. Set aside.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat drizzle in the olive oil. Add in the onion and garlic and sauté for about 1 minute.
  • Add in the ketchup mixture and stir to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain for a smooth sauce. Enjoy!
