Ingredients

Fudgy Brownies

  • 6 ounces unsalted butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips semi-sweet, or your preferred kind
  • sprinkles as needed

Chocolate Drizzle

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
I always use Kosher salt in my kitchen! If using table salt, start with half the amount and adjust to taste, as it is much "saltier" by volume.

Instructions

  • Preheat an oven to 350° F. Lightly grease and line a 9x13 baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a medium sized microwave safe bowl combine the butter and sugar. Microwave in intervals of 30 seconds until the butter is completely melted. Then microwave 30 seconds longer to dissolve more of the sugar.
  • Whisk in the 2 eggs, 1 egg yolk and vanilla extract. Once fully combined stir in the cocoa powder.
  • Add the flour, salt, and cornstarch to the butter mixture and stir until fully combined. Gently fold in the ¾ cup chocolate chips, then transfer the batter to the prepared pan, spreading it out evenly.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely before decorating.

Decorate Brownies

  • Invert the brownies onto a cutting board and begin cutting out the hearts or cut into squares if not using a cookie cutter.
  • Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 20-30 second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Drizzle over the brownies and finish with sprinkles. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a metal 9x13 pan for the best results. It helps the brownies bake evenly.
  • Don't be alarmed, the brownie batter is very thick.
  • If lining the pan with parchment paper, hold it in place while spreading the thick batter.
  • I used a 2-inch heart cutter for the larger brownies and a 1" cutter for the smaller ones.
