This homemade pasta meat sauce is rich, flavorful, and made from scratch with simple ingredients. It’s easy to make, freezer-friendly, and perfect for busy weeknight dinners.
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of pepper. Drain excess grease and set the meat aside.
Add olive oil to the same pan. Sauté the onion, carrot, and celery (mirepoix) for about 8 minutes, until softened.
Stir in the garlic, dried herbs, garlic powder, remaining ½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper. Cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
Return the beef to the pan and add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and a pinch of sugar. Simmer uncovered for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, to let the flavors come together. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
