Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • ½ cup green bell pepper small diced
  • ½ cup onion small diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • ½ cup beef stock
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika or regular
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt *see notes
  • as needed pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns
I always use Kosher salt in my kitchen! If using table salt, start with half the amount and adjust to taste, as it is much "saltier" by volume.

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium high heat begin browning the ground beef.  Halfway through the browning, add the bell peppers and onions. Keep cooking until the beef is thoroughly browned and the vegetables are soft. Then stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Once done, take the skillet off the heat and drain the excess fat.
  • Return the meat to the skillet over medium heat and stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to cook for 5 minutes, stirring often.
  • Serve on toasted hamburger buns. Enjoy!

Notes

You may need more or less salt depending on the salt content of the beef stock you use.
