Ingredients

  • 10 soft corn tortillas
  • As needed vegetable oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ Large onion small diced
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 pinch chipotle powder or cayenne
  • As Needed refried beans warmed
  • As Needed queso fresco cheese or your cheese of choice
  • As Needed shredded lettuce
  • As Needed tomato diced
  • As Needed cilantro chopped
  • As Needed hot sauce
I always use Kosher salt in my kitchen! If using table salt, start with half the amount and adjust to taste, as it is much "saltier" by volume.

Instructions

  • Start by heating ½" of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium- high heat. Fry each corn tortilla for approximately 1 minute, flip and fry for an additional 30 - 45 seconds
  • The tortillas should be crisp and slightly darker in color. Place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain and cool. Continue until all of the tortillas are cooked.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef.  Crumbling as it cooks. When the beef is halfway through cooking add in the diced onions and continue cooking until fully cooked.
  • Drain the meat, return to the skillet and stir in the seasonings.  Add 1-2 tablespoons of water if needed to fully incorporate the seasonings.
  • Gather all of your topping and start to assemble the tostadas. Spread your desired amount of refried beans on the tostada, top with the meat and other toppings. Enjoy!
